At Hippo Events, we’re playing our part in building a sustainable future and creating a better, brighter world for the next generation to inherit.
Concern for the environment and promoting a broader sustainability agenda are integral to Hippo’s professional activities and the management of the organisation. We aim to follow and to promote good sustainability practice, to reduce the environmental impacts of all our activities and to help our clients and partners to do the same.
Our
principles
Our Sustainability Policy is based upon the following principles:
Practical
steps
In order to put these principles into practice we will:
Travel and meetings
Walk, cycle, or use public transport for meetings and site visits, except where alternatives are impractical or prohibitively expensive.
Travel by train to mainland Europe (within 1000km, excluding Scandinavia) whenever possible.
Consideration of sustainable transport in proposals, rather than the cheapest car or air options; if flying is necessary, use full-fare tickets.
Avoid unnecessary travel by using teleconferencing or video calls, and schedule efficiently to minimize trips without compromising client contact.
If needed, to provide clients with webcams during projects to reduce travel while maintaining regular communication.
Support alternative working arrangements (e.g., home working) and promote public transport by choosing accessible office locations.
Purchase of equipment and consumption of resources
Minimise paper and office consumables, e.g., double-sided printing and reducing waste.
Reuse or recycle office waste whenever possible, including paper, IT supplies, and redundant equipment.
Reduce energy use by buying efficient equipment and practicing good energy habits.
Source electricity from renewable suppliers, maximising green energy and supporting new renewable projects.
Use FSC-certified or recycled timber products for furniture and other timber items.
Purchase fair-trade or organic beverages.
Working practices and advice to clients
Require associates to consider sustainability in their client advice.
Publish our Sustainability Policy online for public access.
Incorporate environmental factors into business decision-making.
Recycle event materials wherever possible.
Meet or exceed industry regulations related to sustainability.
Minimise resource use, reuse and recycle materials, and practice ethical purchasing.
Source locally whenever possible.
